Brit Floyd at Northern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium

Brit Floyd comes to Northern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium on Wednesday, August 2nd, 2023. Brit Floyd is a Pink Floyd tribute band formed in 2011 in Liverpool, by Damian Darlington. Damian Darlington began listening to Pink Floyd at the age of 13, and subsequently grew into one of their hugest fans, to the extent that he formed a tribute band in their name. The band is now regarded as one of the most successful and authentic tribute bands in the world, followed closely in recognition by the Australian equivalent – Aussie Floyd.

Darlington was a member of the Australian band but left to form the current set of musicians. Having been an active member of Aussie Floyd, Darlington got to know what was right and what he felt was not, and in forming the Brit band, he concentrated on the detail. They not only played the music, they paid attention to fashion, the equipment and stage layout and the sound reproduction, culminating in almost a genuine Pink Floyd experience. The Band has toured extensively since 2011 and has featured guest musicians from Pink Floyd's studio and touring band line-ups. Former members of the original Pink Floyd have also participated in various Brit Floyd performances and shows.

The history of tribute bands is a bit ambiguous, in that some reviewers maintain the phenomenon is not that old, while others outline the fact that tribute bands and musicians have been around almost as long as the original artists. They may not have been called tributes in the hey-day, but the principle is not far off identical. Today, these tributes are the music industry staple. Paying homage to a favorite artist by imitating their persona and songs can be traced back to Elvis conquering the music world. So, it won’t be wrong to say that the first tribute band or act was an Elvis impersonator.

The Beatles probably had the most impact on the origin and history of tribute bands. The Beatles led to the creation of bona fide tribute bands, and like in the case of Elvis, it isn’t easy to point out when and where the first Beatles' tribute band started performing. However, the one name that stands out, also happens to be a product of marketing, convenience, and pure luck. Arguably, the world’s first recognized tribute band is The Buggs, a group that started performing in the mid-1960s. They sounded very much like the Beatles and even released an album titled The Beetle Beat, with their own original compositions.
