There's no question that The Lion King story is one that gets to people in a number of different ways. Yes, the film was meant for kids, but it's a sad story to say the least. It takes a prodigal son style of narrative that has kept audience members in theaters at the edge of their seats watching this musical since 1997. These are mostly people who already know the story! It's amazing to see that the Lion King continues to sell out shows on Broadway and across the world even though most people know what's going to happen on stage. That's going to be the case in Edmonton, Alberta on Friday 18th July 2025.
One of the things that keeps people filling theaters to see this performance are the tracks. It's a well-rounded soundtrack with music about life, loss, and of course, Hakuna Matata. The current cast provides amazing renditions of these classics that members of the audience love. At the same time, the tracks helps move the story along in this theater version in a way that keeps people at the edge of their seat. You may be waiting for your favorite song to come up all show long, and those 4 minutes or so could end up being the most memorable part of the show.
