The Lion King at Northern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium Tickets

The musical Lion King follows the struggles of the little lion cub Simba, who before his time is forced to accept his destiny of succeeding as the leader of the Pride Lands due to unjust killing of his father, Mufasa. Mufasa, who is a well-loved King by the animals of his lands, faces immense jealousy from Scar, Simba’s uncle, which ends in his murder. This forces Simba into to escape for years, and jumpstarts Simba's personal change and his sudden return to his land and his seat on the throne.

Inspired by the late 1994 motion picture of the same name released by Disney, The Lion King was beautifully adapted to the Broadway stage by director Julie Taymor and the outstanding ensemble and creative team. Its premiere in the 90s was a testament to its success, being a multi-awarded debut. Greg Evans of Variety encapsulates the musical with the most accuracy in his review, sharing that “Julie Taymor's approach of this Broadway mainstay is a wonder, a theatrical achievement unequaled in its beauty, brains and ingenuity. As courageous and daring as Simba himself, the Broadway version greatly upgrades each and every component of the hit 90s cartoon movie, from color and vibrancy and narrative to Lebo M's score and the freshly African-inspired pop numbers of Elton John and Tim Rice."
