The Book Of Mormon tickets

Alberta, you’re in for the best kind of surprise as The Book of Mormon, one of Broadway’s wittiest, cleverest, and most comedic plays is arriving and performing in Edmonton on Friday 22nd November 2024 at the one and only Northern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium! Take part in a musical performance that makes you fall in love with classical musicals, full of hysterical and humorous twists.

Produced from a collaboration of the creators of the famous comedy TV series South Park and the play Avenue Q, The Book of Mormon tells the story of two Mormon missionaries, Kevin Price and Arnold Cunningham, as they try to convert local villagers in Uganda. In the same fashion to their previous productions, the musical takes the serious subject of religion and satirizes it through both script and music.

As Ben Brantley of The New York Times shares, just like South Park, it is “also blasphemous, scurrilous and more foul-mouthed than David Mamet on a blue streak. But trust me when I tell you that its heart is as pure as that of a Rodgers and Hammerstein show”.

Make the most out of your chance to be part of the audience and get a seat to this breathtaking show, before they run out!

Kevin Price and Arnold Cunningham are two coming of age Mormon missionaries tasked with a mission to a remote Ugandan village. Their mission is to convert the locals to their religion, but they learn upon their arrival that their job is more demanding than they had assumed, given the great deal of local issues that the villagers face such as oppression, an HIV/AIDS epidemic, and poverty among others. The pair then come to accept that they must use more unique ways to convert the population than the traditional way that they know.

It is in this duo's unique dynamic where the performance of The Book of Mormon excels – allowing a serious topic of religion to be blasphemed and injected with comedy, showtunes, and a bit of rude language, yet still remaining acceptable to its audience. Since its debut in 2011, the Broadway play has been received positively despite its manner of challenging religious belief. The church itself supported the musical, purchasing ads and releasing marketing marketing material that stated: “You’ve seen the play, now read the book.” In its West End productions, the repeatedly sold-out shows were prime examples of The Book of Mormon’s success. Though most viewers were already drawn in given the content and theme of the play, according to The Guardian, it was even to their surprise that “suddenly you realize you’re in for not just humour but a a thought provoking tale that just keeps on getting better.” The musical’s run in Australia met with a similar positive reception, with the Sydney Morning Herald even declaring that the Book of Mormon is a “dynamite production of a show that can lay fair claim to being the funniest Broadway musical of all time.”

It's no shock that due to its success, The Book of Mormon’s several productions all over the world have earned it nine Tony Awards, four Drama Desk Awards, three Outer Circle Critics awards, four Olivier Awards, and two Helpmann Awards.

This upbeat, happy, and totally comedic show continues its tour in Alberta.
