The Lion King at Northern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium Tickets

Disney’s The Lion King tells the story of the struggles of the young Lion Prince Simba, who prematurely has no choice but to accept his fate of leading as the King of the Pride Lands due to the tragedy that befalls his father, Mufasa. Mufasa, who is a well-loved leader by all of the territory he rules, faces immense jealousy from Scar, Simba’s uncle, which leaves Simba without a father. This forces the young prince into into hiding for years on end, and where the Prince's personal change and his eventual homecoming to his land and his destined rule as King.

Based off the late 1994 film of the same title created by Disney, The Lion King was accurately translated to the Broadway medium by director Julie Taymor and the smashing ensemble and crew. Its launch in the 90s was a fresh addition to theater, being a multi-awarded debut. Greg Evans of Variety summarizes the musical with unequivocal opinions in his posting, stating that “Julie Taymor's direction of this Broadway mainstay is a wonder, a theatrical achievement unequaled in its beauty, brains and ingenuity. As courageous and daring as Simba himself, the live showing enhances on each and every component of the classic 90s animated film, from color and vibrancy and storytelling to Lebo M's compositions and the freshly African-inspired original songs of Elton John and Tim Rice."

The stage adaptation was also received with the best posts from audiences. A post in reference makes mention of how this musical adaptation can appropriately be referred to as “The musical that beats them all”, expressing how he perceived that “the show was fantastic. It was full of color and the song and dance acts were phenomenal. The African savanna setting really carried the roles to life.” Most theatergoers who have watched the performances over the previous 20 years agree that despite being a second retelling of a film, the iconic musical was a worthwhile show to watch.

The upcoming July’s season of The Lion King will be hosted in Northern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium at Alberta on Thursday 24th July 2025.
